ALISON KEMPER, University of Toronto
Rotman School of Management
"Making Markets, Changing Organizations: How Firms and Activists Evaluate Institutional Change"
Alison is finishing her Ph.D. at the Rotman School of Management in Strategic Management. She is originally from Massachusetts and has lived in Toronto for many years. Her academic background is in history and theology (B. A. Yale, M.Div. and M.Th., University of Toronto), and she has led a variety of community-based and activist nonprofit organizations.
After completing her M.B.A. at Rotman in 2004, she enrolled in the Ph.D. programme in order to work with Roger Martin on the ways firms interact with their social environment, and specifically, on the problems with CSR theory. This has led her to look closely at the interactions between social movements and organizations.
Alison is a year round bicycle commuter, a happy dog owner, an occasional Sunday school teacher and a terrific cook. She and her partner have two children.
