Are B-Corps the Answer?

Judy Samuelson in a recent piece on The Huffington Post:

"The latest rage in socially responsible business is the Benefit Corporation. 'B-Corps' have charters and protocols that make clear the intention to achieve 'profits -- plus'-- i.e., a financial return, plus a social or environmental return."

"Frankly, I don't get it."

Case Materials on Employee Ownership Expanded

The Foundation for Enterprise Development (FED), in partnership with Aspen's CBE, has made some key additions to the Curriculum Library on Employee Ownership (CLEO), housed at Caseplace.org. The materials include 50+ seminal works and detailed guides for CLEO users. The purpose of these additions:

1) to provide comprehensive teaching materials on employee ownership; and

2) to outline the ways in which all users can make the most of CLEO, no matter their experience with employee ownership, CLEO, or Caseplace.

New research and teaching materials are from leading publishers and journals in management, business, psychology, human resources, industrial relations, and economics as well as cover a range of topics including effects of equity compensation, organizational distribution of power and voice, and culture of ownership. Check out the new and improved CLEO here.

We also welcome the EO Fellows who have newly joined Caseplace.org. More than 100 academics and thought leaders have been asked to rate CLEO materials using a 1-5 star system. The ratings will help others determine which resources the EO Fellows find especially useful.

The Aspen Institute's Center for Business Education encourages future business leaders to innovate at the intersection of corporate profits and social impacts.  Our goal is bold and long-term: to radically re-orient the MBA degree to embrace the principles of corporate citizenship and sustainability.
